Baruah Bhavan which is a relic of the past is a quaint Assamese styled mansion with an old world charm and is in existence for over a century with progressive re-constructions and renovations over the years. It is an Assamese dwelling and a heritage home of Guwahati which has been transformed into an ethnic styled modern guest house on the first floor. The guest house has six (6) luxurious suites with dressing rooms, air-conditioners, television sets and tiled bathrooms fitted with bathtubs and all other modern amenities. Home cooked meals are provided which include genuine Assamese cuisine.

Baruah Bhavan is ideally located in the heart of the city, in the vicinity of the General Post Office, Guwahati High Court, Guwahati Railway Station, Cotton College, St. Mary's Convent School, Mercantile Banks, Markets, Shopping Complexes, etc. It is only a three minute walk from the promenade along the banks of the River Brahmaputra. On the roof top there is a picturesque terrace garden with a breathtaking view and several lawns with colourful gardens below. There is adequate space for parties, conferences and car parking within the premises. Internet and secretarial services are available in the office on the ground level. The office also provides transport on hire for local sight seeing and to any destination in the Northeast. Expert travel guides well experienced in wild life are also available for touring Kaziranga and the Northeast. The services of connections with laptops and computers are also available in the office.

The staircase leading to the front verandah has marbled steps with potted plants in planters placed at strategic points. There is a mirrored wall bracket at the entrance to the front verandah. The front verandah has a cane sofa set and also houses the reception which has been designed out of a barrel. Three small wall brackets are fitted on the wall with a wooden grill at the front, facing the road. A prominent feature of the verandah is an umbrella rack,which is more than hundred years old, and is a genuine antique piece that has been gifted by Amitava Mitter a scion of the famous Mitter family of Kolkata. There are potted plants placed on the grill and also on the parapet thereunder. The corridor leading from the front verandah and zig-zaging all the way upto the back has green tiles in tandem with the light green walls. The corridor also has wooden grills enroute its open spaces with potted plants thereon giving a very flowery look to the entire passageway. Potted plants placed on wooden stands also line the rear corridor.

The lounge has sofa sets of the Victorian design, where the main features are the prominent curved legs. The upholstery matches the furnishings and curtains. On the wall facing the dining space are two significant photographs, one with Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru being received at the Guwahati Airport in 1955, by Dr. Birinchi Kumar Barua and Raj Baruah. The other is of Dr. Birinchi Kumar Barua's wife Smt. Shanti Chayya Baruah receiving the Sahitya Academy Award in February 1965, from the President of India, Shri S. Radhakrishnan, on behalf of her husband, awarded posthumously for his book "Asomar Loka Sanskrit".

The dining space is separated from the lounge by an archway. The dining table and chairs are of wrought iron and the dining table has a glass top. The dining space has a side board, corner cabinets, half round tables and a console table with marble tops. Several photographs taken during the Gauhati University's 1st Convocation in 1951, adorn the walls. The side board houses the crockery and has drawers and shelves therein.

All the suites have a character of their own and have varied colour schemes with both modern and antique styled furniture. The suites have dressing rooms through which one enters the attached bathrooms. All the bathrooms have anti-skid tiled flooring and are fitted with bathtubs and geysers having shower connections for both hot and cold water. There is an air-conditioner, a television set and a sofa set in every suite. Colourful matching carpets of Persian design have been provided in four of the suites. The carpets have been procured from Raj Baruah's college friend Ashok Sharma who has an export carpet manufacturing unit by the name Akash Kaleens in Mirzapur (U.P.).

There is a beautiful terrace garden on the roof top with a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills along with the entire locality of Uzanbazar in focus, which is the oldest inhabited area of Guwahati and houses the residences of the oldest Assamese families of the State of Assam. There are several lawns on the ground level with sufficient space for car parking. The office on the northern side of the complex provides internet and secretarial services to the guests, if and when the occasion demands.

Baruah Bhavan is a guest house which caters to the needs of every visitor to Guwahati. Due to its proximity to the commercial area of Uzanbazar it is very convenient to find all types of transport viz. taxis, autorickshaws, buses, etc and hence one is always mobile. At the same time it is also away from the hustle and bustle of the other congested market areas of Guwahati, viz. Paltan Bazar, Fancy Bazar, Pan Bazar, G.S. Road etc. and hence one has a feeling of solitude and tranquility within its premises.
